切断したはずの指先が生えてきた

This video is almost unbelievable. Using a ‘re-generative’ powder made from pig’s bladders, a man has regrown the tip of a finger that he lost 3 years ago. A transcript of the video is here.

Troops unite to save soldier knifed in headIt felt like a nasty sucker punch. Yet when he strained his eyes to the hard right, there was something that didn’t belong: the pewter-colored contour of a knife handle jutting from his skull.

Sgt. Dan Powers, stabbed in the head by an insurgent on the streets of East Baghdad, triggered a modern miracle of military medicine, logistics, technology and air power.

His survival relied on the Army’s top vascular neurosurgeon guiding Iraq-based U.S. military physicians via laptop, the Air Force’s third nonstop medical evacuation from Central Command to America, and the best physicians Bethesda National Naval Medical Center in Maryland could offer.

Brain-Eating Amoeba Kills Arizona BoyPHOENIX — A 14-year-old Lake Havasu boy has become the sixth victim to die nationwide this year of a microscopic organism that attacks the body through the nasal cavity, quickly eating its way to the brain.

Aaron Evans died Sept. 17 of Naegleria fowleri, an organism doctors said he probably picked up a week before while swimming in the balmy shallows of Lake Havasu.

According to the Centers For Disease Control, Naegleria infected 23 people from 1995 to 2004. This year health officials said they’ve noticed a spike in cases, with six Naegleria-related cases so far — all of them fatal.

Such attacks are extremely rare, though some health officials have put their communities on high alert, telling people to stay away from warm, standing water.

Life’s a drag for 100-year-old smoker WinnieWhen most people reach the grand old age of 100, they put the achievement down to healthy living, plenty of exercise and the odd tipple of sherry.

But Beatrice Langley has made it to the landmark birthday without a hint of a health drive, as she has been smoking for the past 92 years.

Since lighting her first cigarette at the age of just eight she has stubbed out an estimated 168,000 fags. And she has no intention of giving up any time soon.

She said: “I have smoked ever since infant school. I’ve never thought about quitting. “There were not all the health warnings like there are today when I started. It was the done thing.”
