Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) — Iranian authorities have recently arrested more than a dozen squirrels for espionage.

“In recent weeks, intelligence operatives have arrested 14 squirrels within Iran’s borders,” state-sponsored news agency IRNA reported. “The squirrels were carrying spy gear of foreign agencies, and were stopped before they could act, thanks to the alertness of our intelligence services.”

Iran claims the rodents were being used by Western powers in an attempt to undermine the Islamic Republic.

Iranian police commander Esmaeil Ahmadi-Moqadam confirmed the report, saying that a number of squirrels had been caught bearing foreign spy gear within Iran’s borders.

The rodents were taken into custody 2 weeks ago but few details have emerged about the incident. “I have heard about it, but I do not have precise information,” said the police commander.

Iran has recently stepped up its anti-espionage efforts against the West. There have been no other documented uses of rodents in the past.

One angling guide from Thailand has managed to catch what is believed to be the largest carp ever caught in the history of sport fishing.

Fishing Adventures Thailand professional guide Kik’s carp was found to weigh some 265 pounds (120 kg) after he caught it on the Bung Sam Lan Lake on July 2nd.

The guide had only gone out to the waterway to test a new custom-built fishing rod he had been developing and ended up catching the largest Siamese giant carp ever recorded.

タイの釣り師が265ポンド(120kg!)の巨鯉を釣り上げたというお話。
ちなみに今までの淡水魚世界記録は185kg の Arapaima gigas だそうです。
本当は 82kg だったらしいと言う情報が、コメント欄で指摘されました。
それは、それでスゴイですね。

BEIJING (AP) - People living in communities surrounding a large shallow lake have been overrun by field mice after floodwaters drove the rodents out of islands on the lake, state media reported Monday.

The mouse invasion began on June 23 when the Yangtze River flooded, raising the water level in central China’s Dongting Lake and submerging mouse holes on lake islands, the official Xinhua News Agency said.

Now, an estimated 2 billion mice are ravaging crops in 22 counties around the lake, and authorities were rushing to construct walls and ditches to keep the rodents out. Residents have killed more than 2.3 million field mice - or 90 tons of the rodents, Xinhua said.
