SOUTHGATE, Mich. — A Detroit-area restaurant owner believes he has broken the world record for “largest hamburger commercially available.”

After 12 hours of preparation and baking, the 134-pound burger emerged Saturday at Mallie’s Sports Bar and Grill.

The “Absolutely Ridiculous Burger,” made with beef, bacon and cheese, was delivered on a 50-pound bun, The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press reported. It sells for $350, and orders require 24 hours’ notice.

Flipping the burger required three men using two steel sheets.

重量は134ポンド(60.8kg)、価格は350ドル(3.8万円)。バーガーを裏返すには、３人の男手が必要との事。

ちなみに今までのレコードホルダーはペンシルベニア州の Beer Barrel Pub で作られた123ポンド(55.8kg)のバーガーだったとのこと。

A US designer is working on the world’s first wooden supercar.

Joe Harmon, 27, started the project with other students at North Carolina State University to see whether it was possible to build a performance car out of wood.

Their creation - the Splinter - should be completed later this year and they believe it should be capable of speeds in excess of 240mph.

Mr Harmon said: “Wood is a truly amazing material to work with. It has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than aluminium or steel, and it possesses a versatility that makes many different types of construction techniques possible.

Movie stuntman Steve Truglia, 40, will jump from a hot air balloon 24 miles up on the edge of space.

That is three times the cruising altitude of a Jumbo jet. Only a Space Shuttle flies higher, shedding its rocket boosters at 150,000ft.

He will freefall for seven minutes before opening his parachute, and could break the 770mph sound barrier as he hurtles towards the ground. No human has ever travelled at such a speed outside an aircraft — and Steve has no idea how his body will react.

ちなみに現在の世界記録は、1960年に米国空軍の Joseph Kittinger によって記録された高度10万2千フィート(31,089.6m)とのこと。
